A Nigerian cleric based in the United Kingdom and Senior Pastor of Christ Faith Tabernacle, Apostle Alfred Williams, has said President Muhammadu Buhari should not be blamed for Nigeria’s woes.

Williams submitted that the Nigerian system frustrated Buhari’s good intention for the country.

He spoke during his visit to the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) station in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

The clergyman said Nigeria’s systemic rot if not addressed would always frustrate any leadership in the country.

“Buhari is not the problem of Nigeria. The problem of Nigeria is the system. If you or I, an apostle of God, or Pastor Adeboye of the Redeemed (ChristianChurchof God), who we all respect highly, or Pastor Kumuyi sits at the presidency of Nigeria, they will be frustrated.

“So, it’s not the person on the seat, it’s the system that is frustrating any good intention. If we direct our target to Buhari, if anybody gets there and the system is still there, he will still fail like Buhari failed,” he said.

Williams said Nigeria requires a transformational and servant leadership as the country prepares for the 2023 elections.

“In the 21st century which we are in and the new Nigeria that is coming, the method of leadership that will be produced is called transformational leadership. The approach of transformational leadership and also servant leadership.

“These are the two leadership systems you found in England, Europe, America and other developed nations. We are richer than these nations both in human and mineral resources. But the issue in Nigeria is only leadership and approach to leadership,” he added.

The UK bishop applauded the General Manager of the NTA, Mrs Funmi Wakama, for transforming the station under her five-year reign.

In her welcome address, Wakama noted that the clergyman, through his weekly programmes at the state, remains one of the major sources of revenue.

The veteran broadcast journalist said the NTA Abeokuta had witnessed a tremendous turnaround under her administration.

“We are prudent, open, transparent and put trust in God,” Wakama said.
